ABOUT

After all the planning and excitement, very often your big day or special event can pass in a blur so we know the importance of having photographs that are more than posed or contrived images. We take great pride in offering documentary style photography - capturing the story of your day, the details that make it unique and the personalities and joy of your guests - in a sympathetic and fine art style.

Where possible we like to meet with all our clients beforehand, giving you a chance to get to know us and to talk through the plans for the day so we can work around you and adapt to changing events. We aim to blend in as much as possible and work to your schedule with minimal disruption and distraction.

We apply the same philosophies to our commercial photography, getting to know your business and what is important to you, in order to produce a collection of photographs which you can use across your marketing collateral to represent your company with confidence.

“It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like,

it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they are.”

Paul Caponigro

CHOOSING A PHOTOGRAPHER

Unlike many other elements that make up your day - such as the food or the flowers - unfortunately you can't know what the final picture will look like until after the event, yet they will come to form much of what you remember and fill in the gaps of the things you missed. For this reason it's vitally important that you know in advance of booking, what type of photographer you're after. There's lots of advice online that can talk you through what to look for, and of course you can look at photographers galleries, like ours, to get an idea of what they do, but here's some things that set us apart and will hopefully give you the confidence to trust us with this important task!

We specialise in documentary photography; this means that, instead of a series of posed photos, these are candid or spontaneous pictures (not styled) of the guests, decorations and the action. Rather than provide you with thousands of 'snaps', we will carefully select a set number of photographs (typically 150-200 for larger weddings, chosen based on our conversations with you) which will then be edited to ensure that each picture is of the highest quality, captures the atmosphere in our unique style and together tells the story of the day.

Of course we know that as part of that story it's nice to include some portraits, so we will discuss this with you in advance - who will be in these and when/where they will take place, whether it's group pictures outside the church after a wedding or a romantic shoot with the couple - and, as you will see from our gallery, we will also occasionally ask guests to 'smile for the camera'! We will also ask you beforehand to tell us if there's any VIP's - perhaps a much loved grandmother or a friend who's traveled from the other side of the world to be there - to ensure that they're not missed.

As mentioned before, we ideally like to have a meeting beforehand, not just to gather necessary information, but also so that you can get to know the photographer/s and be relaxed in their company. Sadly this isn't always possible so perhaps the best way to sum us up is friendly, easy going, professional and discreet. We don't want to steal the show or have your lasting memory of your day as us pushing a camera in your face or telling you what to do, we will always look presentable and mix with you and your guests without getting in the way (though we always carry extra bottles of water, sowing kits and tissues just in case we can be helpful)!

If you're still not sure if we're the right fit, don't hesitate to contact us and we can organise a meeting to see more examples of our work and discuss your expectations.

Jan Lennartz has been a keen photographer his whole life, never being parted for long from his camera. It was following his degree at Central St. Martins and then moving into graphic design, that his skills began to be called upon for a variety of commercial work - from marketing and advertising images to editorial for magazines and newspapers.

All the while Jan was developing a love for portraiture and a passion for storytelling through his photographs. It is this that underpins the work he does today; documenting and retelling the romance, happiness and emotions of what may be one of the most important days in a persons life, in his own sympathetic, gentle and considered style.
